Business meeting today at which we discussed ongoing projects, including the installation of three benches on the Zim Smith Trail. The photo shows, left to right, Rotarians Paul Sausville, Doug Martin, Al Schmidt, Chris Luhn, Mike Williams, Jim Hale, Marcus Batson and Bob Conner, who prepared the concrete bases last Saturday. This Saturday morning (check your email for precise info) we'll put in the actual benches. Thanks also to behind-the-scenes facilitators Arlene Schmidt, Tom Disinger and Barb Conner, and to the GlobalFoundries-Town of Malta Foundation.
We also discussed at today's meeting the drought in Lesotho and its effect on Qholaqhoe Mountain Connections, an organization which we've helped in recent years and hope to again soon. Al Schmidt announced that club members have donated $2,559 to the Rotary Foundation this fiscal year. Al also repaired our signs for the upcoming pancake breakfast on May 14 at Malta Ridge Fire House, and Miles Cornthwaite and Doug Martin put them up around town.
We're donating $150 to a Haiti aid project through an upcoming Rotary district conference, and will start collecting food again (especially canned protein products such as beef stew and tuna) for the Malta Community Center food pantry.
